If your dog gets sick, it can be a troublesome time. You aren't exactly sure what is going on with your dog, as he can't exactly tell you what is wrong, so you're left in the dark. If your dog is sick, there are a few things you can do to help him feel better. See below for some tips to help you make your dog feel better.

Take Him Outside

If your dog is feeling ill, he's going to need to go outside. Whether he's vomiting or has diarrhea, he's going to want to go out. He may need to alleviate himself, or want to eat some grass to settle his stomach. Let him out often or whenever needed, maybe even the fresh air and laying outside in the cooler air can be beneficial to your pup.

Make Him Food

Skip the regular dog food for a bit until his belly is settled. Instead give him a bit of rice and some boiled chicken. The bland food will help settle his stomach and the rice will soak up anything in his stomach to hopefully prevent any more diarrhea and harden his stools again.

Look For The Cause

Sometimes dogs just get sick, but there are times when something could have made him sick. Look around the house for anything he may have gotten into to be sure he didn't eat anything that could be poisonous or hazardous to his health. Take a look at your pup's stools outside to be sure there isn't anything hazardous inside. If your dog got into anything, take the package or write down everything you know about it and take your dog to the veterinarian right away. Give the information to your veterinarian so he can help your dog feel better.

If you didn't find anything your dog may have eaten that was out of the ordinary, did you recently change dog food? If you did, be sure to always mix the old dog food with the new food to slowly get your dog used to the new food. You can add more of the new food with each bowl until you are only feeding the new food to your dog. Never just change your dog's food, as it can make him sick.

If your dog is not feeling well, and you've done what you can, but it still is not helping, take him to the veterinarian. Your veterinarian can give him a thorough checkup to be sure there isn't something else going on with your pup and can give you medication to help make him feel better.
